șoara, will implement the project “Urban regeneration for Câmpulung starting from the built heritage”. The project is financially supported by Administraţia Fondului Cultural Naţional (The Administration of the National Cultural Fund).
This is an unique initiative for the small and medium communities in Romania, designed to improve the living standards of the residents through integrated urban development focused on the protection of the built heritage.
The project contributes to the protection of the built heritage by developing "The Built Heritage Code" for Câmpulung and a "Good Practice Guide" concerning the rehabilitation of the buildings that are part of the protected urban site called “Orașul istoric Câmpulung”.
An interdisciplinary team of specialists in art history, urbanism, architecture and public communication will prepare the documentation for "The Built Heritage Code" and for "The Good Practice Guide". The Code and the Guide are much needed tools for the owners of historical monuments and the citizens of the historic town of Câmpulung because it makes the conservation and sustainable use of built heritage more transparent to the general public. The specialists will work together with a group of young architects from the Faculty of Architecture - “Politehnica” University of Timișoara who will perform an extensive field research. They will provide an inventory of the historical monuments included in the National List of Historic Monuments and of other buildings inside the protected area.
The research and documentation process is complemented by public debates concerning "The Built Heritage Code" where the citizens of Câmpulung, especially the heritage buildings’ owners are invited to participate and share their ideas, issues and wishes. The debates will be used to refine the Code and Guide to be rooted in the local realities and useful tool for the owners of buildings inside the built heritage protection area. The Code and the Guide are instruments of the local authority designed to support the citizens and the service providers in the field of conservation, restoration and heritage protection. Approved and adopted locally by the decision of the Town Council, these documents will provide a solid foundation for updating the city's Urban Master Plan (Planul Urbanistic General).
"The Good Practice Guide" will be distributed free of charge to the owners and administrators of historic monuments in Câmpulung. Moreover, the team of young architects from the Faculty of Architecture in Timisoara will be present on site at the end of the project in order to distribute the manual and to communicate directly with the owners of historical monuments answering questions and providing more information on the important role of historical buildings in the urban health of a community.
